New Delhi:

Karnataka’s incumbent Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has won the seat from Badami but couldn’t secure victory in Chamundeshwari. The Congress leader had a bitter Tuesday as he earned the win in the constituency of Badami by a thin margin of 1,696 votes but lost in Chamundeshwari with a huge margin of 36,042 votes.

GT Deve Gowda from the Janata Dal (Secular) secured 1,21,325 votes in Chamundeshwari while Siddaramaiah pulled off 85,283 votes.

The 69-year-old politician received a tough fight from BJP’s B Sreeramulu in Badami, as the latter got 65,903 votes. The Congress had previously won the seat in 2013.

Siddaramaiah has submitted his resignation to the governor on Tuesday.

Ahead of the election, the Congress had announced that Siddaramaiah would contest from both the constituencies. While replying to BJP’s P Muralidhar Rao, the veteran political leader said that the people will decide his fate in both the constituencies.
