After the victory over the power tussle in Karnataka as BS Yeddyurappa resigned without facing the trust vote, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP had been “taught a lesson” and the Congress "saved democracy" in the country.
The Congress leader also said that Modi was making blatant lie when he said that he would rid the nation of corruption and Modi himself is “corruption”.
"You've seen openly how the PM directly authorised purchasing of MLAs in Karnataka, so the idea that PM spreads in the country that he is fighting corruption, is a blatant lie, he is corruption," added Gandhi.
Gandhi strongly attacked PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah and alleged “Modi directly authorised horse trading” and “murder accused Amit Shah tried to buy our MLAs”.
Modi should realise that the “PM is not bigger than the people of India or the institutions of the country,” Gandhi said.
"Did you notice that after the exercise at the Vidhan Sabha in Karnataka, the BJP legislators decided to get up and leave before the National Anthem was played? This shows that they respect no National institution," said Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a press conference after BS Yeddyurappa's resignation.
The three-day old B S Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka collapsed on Saturday, with the chief minister announcing his decision to resign without facing a trust vote.
"I am proud that opposition stood together & defeated the BJP and we will continue to do so: Rahul Gandhi after BS Yeddyurappa's resignation as Karnataka CM," said the BJP president.
The Supreme Court had on Friday ordered a floor test in the Karnataka Assembly at 4 PM today, drastically slashing the 15-day window given by Governor Vajubhai Vala to Yeddyurappa to prove his majority.
Yeddyurappa’s resignation will pave the way for formation of a government led by JD(S) state chief H D Kumaraswamy, who has the backing of the Congress. The newly formed alliance has claimed support of 117 MLAs in the 224-member House with an effective strength of 221.
