New Delhi:

As the crucial Madhya Pradesh elections 2018 is just a few days away, political parties are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to outdo each other with prominent leaders holding roadshows, fielding key candidates, poaching heavyweights and forging alliances to prove the electoral juggernaut. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah blew the poll bugle in Mandsaur and Morena, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has also addressed a series of rallies at Sagar, Damoh and Tikamgarh in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.

Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for growing up employment in Madhya Pradesh, the Gandhi scion said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has betrayed the youth of the country and had not fulfilled promises of providing over two crore jobs and "depositing" Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts.

"Modi ji has betrayed the people on the issue of providing jobs to two crore people every year and depositing Rs 15 lakh cash into their accounts by bringing (back) black money stashed abroad," Gandhi was quoted as saying in Sagar.

Accusing Modi of spreading "hatred" across India, the Congress chief said the fear of losing 2019 Lok Sabha elections has created hatred in the prime minister's mind and he uses wrong words whenever addresses an election rally anywhere in the country.

"The faith reposed by the people and youths in them has broken. Now, when Modi comes, people say he will speak lies," Gandhi added.

The Congress president has also spoke about Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's decency during his speeches, saying Chouhan knows that he is going to be defeated but there is no hatred in his words.

"There is another person (Modi), who is afraid. The people have lost their faith (in Modi)," Gandhi said while addressing a gathering at Damoh.

"He (Modi) knows that he is going to be defeated in 2019. This has caused hatred in his heart. Wherever he is going, he is talking with hatred and anger. People know that this man is weak. This fear is converting into hatred. The entire country is watching," he added.

Continuing his attack on the BJP government, Gandhi accused the Centre of corruption by implementing the Bundelkhand package in Madhya Pradesh.

On November 19, 2009, the Centre had approved a special package of Rs 7,266 crore for implementation of drought mitigation strategies in Bundelkhand region which falls in Madhya Pradesh as well as Uttar Pradesh. Under this package, Uttar Pradesh was allocated Rs 3,506 crore while Madhya Pradesh was to receive Rs 3,760 crore over a period of three years from 2009-10 to 2011-12.

Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly will take place on 28 November to elect members of the 230 constituencies across the state. It is believed to be a straight fight between the BJP and the Congress. The counting of votes will be taken up on December 11, 2018.

Chouhan has been ruling Madhya Pradesh since 2005 while the Saffron party has been in power in the state since 2003.
