Mizoram elections: PRISM files counter affidavits against CM Lal Thanhawla and 27 other candidates

New Delhi:

The People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM), an NGO-turned a political party with anti-corruption plank, on Saturday has filed counter affidavits against 28 candidates, including Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, who have submitted nomination to contest the polls to the 40-member Mizoram Legislative Assembly on November 28.

A release issued by PRISM said that counter affidavits were filed against candidates belonging to the ruling Congress, Mizo National Front (MNF) and Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM).

Apart from Thanhawla, those against whom counter affidavits were filed against by PRISM include ZPM chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma and MNF nominee C Lalramzauva, for allegedly trying to conceal facts, the release said.

At present, as many as 211 contestants have filed their nominations for the ensuing Mizoram polls.

PRISM, one of Mizoram’s newest political party, has announced 13 candidates and will nominate 12 more for the 28 November Assembly elections, said party official.

“As a political party we would like to form the new government,” party chief Vanlalruata admits, adding “even if we do not perform as well as expected, it is only the beginning of our political journey, we will go all the way until the fight is won.”

PRISM functioned as an NGO for 12 years with an aimed to eradicate corruption and improving administrative systems in the state.

On November last year, the organisation has converted into a political party under the banner People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram, retaining the acronym PRISM.
