Can you speak unprompted: PM Modi dares Rahul Gandhi over '15-minute debate' challenge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched BJP's campaign in poll-bound Karnataka on Tuesday, unleashed a sharp attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi, daring him 'to speak in any language' for 15 minutes about the achievements of the Siddaramaiah government.

"Congress President has challenged me, if he speaks for 15 minutes in Parliament, I will not be able to sit. I challenge you (Rahul Gandhi) to speak for 15 minutes on the achievements of your government in Karnataka without reading from any piece of paper," Modi said while addressing a rally at Santhemarahalli in Karnataka.

Modi was responding to Gandhi's dare to allow him to speak for 15 minutes in Parliament on various issues, including corruption, and that the prime minister will not be able to sit for 15 minutes.

Launching an all-out attack against Congress, the prime minister accused the Siddaramaiah government of corruption and thwarting the Centre's ongoing efforts for development.

The Prime Minister extended his greetings to the labourer on the occasion of May Day. He also slammed Gandhi for not acknowledging the contribution of workers towards 100 per cent electrification of villages achieved under his government.

"April 28th is a day that will be written in golden" letters in country's history because our hardworking people" made electricity reach the last unelectrified village Leisang in Manipur. But the new leader of the Congress did not utter two words of praise for the workers who made it possible," Modi said.

Earlier, the central government completed its task to electrify more than 18,000 of India's over 6,40,000 villages. The Modi govenrment claimed that it had achieved complete electrification of all villages in the country. According to the govt's claims, Manipur’s Leisang was the last village to get the elctricity on April 28.
