New Delhi :

Rajasthan Exit Poll 2018: Rajasthan is likely to go with its decades' old tradition of voting the incumbent out. According to the News Nation exit poll, Congress is likely to get a clear majority with 99-103 seats against the BJP’s 89-93. Vasundhara Raje-led BJP’s vote share is expected to be 39 per cent while the Congress, taking a giant leap forward, is predicted to win 44 per cent of the total vote share in the desert state. Since 193, Rajasthan has voted the incumbent out and the state is likely to repeat the same old story. Although the official results of the December 7 Rajasthan Assembly elections will be announced on December 11 by the Election Commission, News Nation Exit Poll has predicted the mood of the voters. Earlier in October, the News Nation opinion poll had given the Congress party 113 to 117 seats against the BJP’s 71 to 75 seats. Given that, the saffron party has narrowed down a big gap and brought the otherwise one-sided elections a little close.

The Assembly elections in Rajasthan and four other states – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram – are seen as the semifinal before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Assembly elections in Rajasthan are important for both the BJP and the Congress as the state sends 25 MPs to the lower house (Lok Sabha).

The results of the high-stake Rajasthan Assembly elections will also be crucial for Congress president Rahul Gandhi, whose leadership qualities are often questioned by the opponents. Earlier, the highly charged up electioneering that saw the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition Congress indulging in a fierce battle to outclass each other, came to an end on December 5.

For the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah led the election campaign along with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Modi alone addressed at least 13 public rallies, the party held 15 roadshows and as many as 222 major public meetings across the state. The BJP also parachuted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to give their campaign a saffron tinge. Yogi, as expected, sparked a row by terming Lord Hanuman a "Dalit".

On the other hand, Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot jointly steered the Congress’ election campaign with party president Rahul Gandhi, former union minister P Chidambaram and Navjot Sigh Sidhu being the star campaigners. Although most opinion polls predicted a clear majority for the Congress, the BJP did well to narrow the gap in the last lap. However, the News Nation exit poll, which is considered as most accurate by leading political pundits, will clear the air and predict the possible outcome.
