Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) president Prem Singh Tamang, popularly known as PS Golay, on Monday took oath as the new chief minister of Sikkim. Golay’s oath to the office was administered by Governor Ganga Prasad at a function at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

In the recently held Assembly elections, Golay’s Sikkim Kratikari Morcha (SKM) ended 24-year rule of Sikkim Democratic Front’s Pawan Kumar Chamling by winning 17 seats in the 32-member Assembly.

The Sikkim Democratic Front won 15 seats but its total number of seats would be counted 14 as Chamling had contested from two seats and won both. He will now have to vacate one of them, where elections will be held again.

Earlier on Saturday, the SKM president, accompanied by the 17 newly-elected legislators of his party, had met the Governor and staked claim to form the govenrment in the state.
