Sikkim Bypoll Results 2019: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has, for the first time, won two seats in Sikkim i.e. Gangtok and Martam Rumtek constituencies. On the other hand, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang aka as PS Golay of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) won the Poklok Kamrang Assembly constituency by a margin of 8,953 votes. PS Golay's rivals in the poll were Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) nominee Moses Rai and Yadhu Kumar Rai of Sikkim Republican Party (SRP).
BJP candidate Sonam Tshering Venchungpa has won from Martam Rumtek Assembly seat by defeating his nearest rival Nuk Tshering Bhutia of the SDF by 6,150 votes. Venchungpa polled 8,204 votes while Bhutia secured 2,054 votes. Nima Lepcha of the Hamro Sikkim Party stood third with 1,235 votes. Some 154 NOTA votes were polled. A total of six candidates were in fray in Martam Rumtek Assembly seat.
Meanwhile, another BJP candidate Yong Tshering Lepcha, won the Gangtok Assembly seat by the magin of 1010 votes. A total of six candidates including Bhaichung Bhutia were in the fray from Gangtok Assembly seat.
Importantly, the bypolls were necessitated as former chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling (SDF), legislators D T Lepcha (earlier with SDF and now in BJP) and Kunga Nima Lepcha (SKM) had vacated Poklok Kamrang, Martam Rumtek and Gangtok seats respectively after winning from two seats each.
