Tamil Nadu Election Results: According to the latest trends from counting, J Jayalalithaa will remain the Chief Minsiter of Tamil Nadu. Celebrations broke out outside her residence in Tamil Nadu on Thursday with her supporters declaring victory for her by 9:30 AM.
Most exit polls had predicted that Jayalalithaa’s arch rival M Karunanidhi and his party DMK would return to power in Tamil Nadu. However, today as the trends began coming, the leaders who were spotted walking into Karunanidhi's residence refused to comment, thus indicating an acceptance of defeat.
AIADMK headquarters is also seeing a steady stream of party workers. Waving party flags they too are getting ready to celebrate. Once the results are out giving AIADMK a clear win, Jayalalithaa is expected come out of her house and greet them, like she did in 2011 when the party wrested power from DMK.
93-year-old Karunanidhi, who is in a wheelchair, had committed to serve the state as Chief Minister. Jayalalithaa was acquitted of corruption charges last year by a court in Bengaluru, but the Karnataka government challenged that verdict in the Supreme Court.
