"Shall we announce Akhilesh's decision also?" this was the conversation between Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav during the press conference in Lucknow on Friday in which they announced the decision to expel chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav from the party.
In the conversation, when Mulayam asked about Akhilesh’s notification, Shivpal responded, ‘it is being typed’. A prompt Mulayam asked, ‘shall we still announce it? Shivpal nods and says ‘yes, go ahead’.
Just before this conversation between Mulayam and Shivpal, the Samajwadi Party chief had announced the expulsion of his brother Ram Gopal Yadav from the party for six years.
As Mulayam was caught on camera asking about Akhilesh's expulsion, there were reports in media that the Samajwadi Party chief was not sure about the decision to expel Akhilesh also.
Was Mulayam Singh not prepared to announce son Akhilesh Yadav's expulsion also? If yes, then why was he taking confirmation from Shivpal in the press conference? If no, did Mulayam take the decision to expel Akhilesh without thinking much on the consequences of the decision?
Did Mulayam Singh asked Shivpal about the Akhilesh's announcement in a live press conference to give an indirect indication that he was not the one who took the decision to expel Akhilesh from the party?
Is the Yadav Pariwar drama well planned to establish Akhilesh as supreme leader in the party as new reports are saying the party can cancel Akhilesh's expulsion?
These are few points raising questions on Mulayam's decisions.
The major upheaval in Uttar Pradesh on Friday saw expulsion of state CM Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav from Samajwadi Party.
Setting the stage for a show of strength, Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday held a meeting at his residence where a majority of the 229 party MLAs were present
Though the exact number of those present at the meeting was not immediately known, insiders maintained that a majority of the 229 SP MLAs were present. Besides, some SP MLCs and senior party functionaries loyal to Akhilesh attended the meeting.
What happened on Friday
Earlier on Friday, Mulayam expelled Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav for six years after they put up candidates against the official nominees and summoned a party meet on Sunday.
The action, dubbed by a defiant Ram Gopal, Mulayam's cousin, as "unconstitutional", as the party plunged into an unprecedented crisis raising questions over the fate of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
On a day of fast-moving developments, hordes of frenzied Akhilesh supporters, especially the youth, thronged his residence to express their support.
Making the announcement at a press conference in Lucknow, Mulayam said the new Chief Minister will be chosen by the Samajwadi Party.
