The Election Commission today filed FIRs against two Presiding Officers for alleged electoral malpractices.

In Hooghly district’s Tarakeswar seat, a Presiding Officer posted in a booth at Girindh Primary School was found to be helping voters in pressing EVM button and allowed unauthorised entry of outsider, state Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta said.

After receiving complaint, it was verified and he was immediately removed from duty.

An FIR was also filed against him, Gupta said.

In the other case in Arambagh constituency, another presiding officer was removed for entering the voting zone and taking unauthorised help of outsiders during polling process.

A police complaint was also lodged against him. The name of both the presiding officers is the same - Tapan Kumar Roy.
