New Delhi:

Come January 23, 2019 and Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Wagon R in India. The new Wagon R will compete with the likes of the Tata Tiago and the recently launched Hyundai Santro. The prices for the newer version of the already popular Maruti Suzuki Wagon R are expected to be between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom) with the new car set to be offered with more features, more space and of course, more safety than ever before. The car will be available with not one, not two but four fuel options – petrol, LPG, CNG and Electric. The new Wagon R will also be more spacious as compared to the outgoing model.

While the petrol and CNG dual fuel options of the new Maruti WagonR are expected to be available at the launch, the LPG-Petrol dual fuel option could be made available only later on. The all-electric variant of the car will take a while to arrive though, and it won’t be before 2020 when it will be available. It will be the first mass-market electric car from Maruti Suzuki and a competitive price tag could be expected. Expect to pay less than Rs 10 lakh for the all-electric variant of the WagonR. The car is expected to have a usable range per charge as well. While the exact figure is yet to be revealed, about 150-200 kilometre of usable range per charge is what the new Maruti WagonR Electric is likely to offer.

The car is expected to be offered with the same 1-litre, 3 cylinder K-Series petrol engine. This motor makes 67 Bhp-90 Nm in the outgoing WagonR, and similar outputs are likely on the all-new variant. While running on LPG and CNG, the motor is expected to make slightly lower power and torque numbers. As for gearboxes, a 5-speed manual unit will be standard while a 5 speed AMT option will be offered on the petrol variants. The LPG and CNG dual fuel variants will only get the manual gearbox, as reported by cartoq.com

A touchscreen infotainment system for the top spec variant along with inbuilt navigation, rear parking sensors, a rear-view parking camera and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also be the added features.
