Marking its debut in the electric vehicle segment, TVS Motor Company has recently launched iQube electric scooter at Rs 1.15 lakh (on-road, Bangalore). According to a report of NDTV’s carandbike, the new TVS iQube electric scooter will be first sold in Bangalore before other cities. It is to be noted that the booking for TVS iQube Electric Scooter is underway. You can book TVS iQube Electric Scooter for a token amount of Rs 5,000 through the company's website or at select dealerships.

At the launch event, TVS Motor Company Chairman Venu Srinivasan said, "TVS Motor is driven by Customer Centric Innovation. As India moves ahead, its mobility solutions would increasingly be total experience-led, nowhere is this felt sharper than among the youth of India. Our focus on the 'Green & Connected' youth of India, is embodied, in the first of the TVS Electric portfolio. TVS iQube Electric is a blend of an advanced electric drivetrain and the next gen TVS SmartXonnect platform."

In a statement, TVS stated that the battery management systems, software development and even the electric motor that powers the iQube, have been designed and developed in India.

TVS iQube Electric Scooter: Specifications & Features

TVS iQube electric scooter has features such as SmartXonnect connected tech, LED DRL with a LED headlamp and taillight. The electric scooter comes equipped with an electric motor that churns out 6 bhp and 140 Nm. It has a top speed of 78 kmph.

TVS iQube electric scooter has a 4.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, which gets fully charged in 5 hours. However, there is no fast-charging technology. It makes use of a traditional hub motor and weighs 118 kg (kerb weight). The company claims that the iQube electric scooter has a range of 75 km on a single charge.

It is worth mentioning here that the company has installed production capacity of 1,000 units per month for the new iQube and expects to sell about 100 units in the first few days. The e-scooter was first showcased as a concept at the 2012 Auto Expo. On the competition front in India, TVS iQube Electric is up against Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450, and Okinawa Praise.
