Suzuki has uncloaked its all new Swift Hybrid in Japan on Monday, which will be available in two variants Hybrid SG and Hybrid SL.

This hybrid derivative is a lot more different from SHVS-equipped mild ones that were launched before. The hatchback pairs the standard 91hp 1.2-litre petrol motor to a 10 kW Motor Generator Unit (MGU) and a 5-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) gearbox.

This hybrid system automatically stops the internal combustion engine and switches to EV driving when the vehicle is running at a constant speed or in heavy traffic conditions.

The car comes in two-wheel drive mode and Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency of 32kmpl in the Japanese cycle and has managed to weigh just under 1000 kg.

On the outside, there are no changes to the Swift except for the 'Hybrid' badge on the front fender. Inside the cabin, there is a prominent blue outline to the gear selector and a blue display for the meters with a hybrid indicator showing the power graph.

The Swift Hybrid SL variant comes equipped with paddle shiftters. Advanced safety features includes the Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS) collision-mitigating system that features a monocular camera and laser sensor to detect hurldes ahead, as well as SRS curtain airbags and front seat SRS side airbags, come as standard.

While the new generation Suzuki Swift is an extremely important product for India and is set to hit the floors at the 2018 Auto Expo, but there are no indication of hybrid Swift will come to India, due to high pricing and expensive technology.
