The new generation 2020 Mahindra Thar which is soon going to roll out its BS-VI compliant diesel engine model at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. But, a test mule of the 2020 Mahindra Thar recently suffered heavy damage in a crash with Maruti Omni during night testing in Himachal Pradesh.
Last year, in the month of November a similar accident occurred with a test mule of Mahindra Scorpio where it had caught fire in Chennai. Talking about the recent accident with the Mahindra Thar, the test mule crashed with the Omni with such high-magnitude that the driver-side of the car was completely destroyed.
The next-gen Mahindra Thar is expected to be more sophisticated than its predecessor but still carrying its rugged characteristics. Even, the interior will be using more upmarket than that of the current model.
Currently, Mahindra Thar comes with a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 105 bhp of power at 3800 rpm and 274 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. The engine is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission
The top-spec hard top variant equipped with alloy wheels and LED tail lamps which were already spotted, now, a soft trim variant was spotted in the southern part of India. In terms of design, the soft-top variant too is very similar to the hard-top model.
2020 Mahindra Thar will also come with an updated cabin featuring an all-black dashboard with new dials for AC, new steering wheel, new central air-con vents, also a new touchscreen infotainment system.
The new Thar will also get features like a MID (Multi-Information Display) unit, and a new gear lever. On Safety front, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will feature front, ABS driver airbag, rear parking sensors and speed alert system among others.
