Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday announced that it has sold 38 lakh units of Alto. Also, the automaker said that Alto has been the country's best-selling car for 15 consecutive years. It is to be noted that Maruti Suzuki Alto was launched in the year 2000.

In a statement, the automaker said, “Alto crossed the 10 lakh sales mark in 2008 and in 2012 it reached the 20 lakh milestone. In 2016, the model crossed 30 lakh sales.” It has been India's best-selling car for 15 consecutive years, Maruti Suzuki added.

MSI Executive Director (Marketing & Sales) Shashank Srivastava said, "Alto has been the preferred choice for entry car buyers due to several factors like its compact design, easy maneuverability, high fuel efficiency, updated safety features etc, while maintaining the affordability.”

Currently, Maruti Suzuki Alto is available in two variants i.e. Alto 800 and Alto K10. The Alto 800 is priced between Rs 2.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 4.09 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). On the other hand, the Alto K10 is available in the range of Rs 3.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 4.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki India had launched the Alto 800 facelift in April 2019. It comes with a BS6-compliant, 3-cylinder, 0.8-litre engine that develops 48 hp and 69 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Whereas, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is powered by a BS4-compliant, 1.0-litre, K10B engine that produces 68 hp and 90 Nm of torque. Apart from the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, there is also a 5-speed automatic transmission on offer.
