At the Auto Expo 2020 being held in Greater Noida, Maruti Suzuki has finally unveiled the petrol variant of S-Cross. It is to be noted that the S-Cross is only being offered with the fiat-sourced 1.3-Litre, four-cylinder engine so far. However, Fiat has now discontinued the diesel engine as its upgradation to BS6 involved high cost. Also, there is still no confirmation about it getting a diesel powertrain at a later date. Maruti's chairman RC Bhargava had said earlier that the carmaker will only consider continuing the new 1.5-litre diesel engine if there will be ample demand for diesel models post BS6 nationwide implementation. This means that the S-Cross will come only with a petrol model.
As for the powertrain is concerned, the S-Cross will be equipped with the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, SHVS petrol motor that churns out 1.2 bhp and 134 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed torque convertor unit.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross remains identical featuring the same exterior design and cabin layout. However, it will have the all-new 7-inch Smartplay Studio 2.0 System. The S-Cross continues to get features like the Smart Key with push button start, auto-folding ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, automatic climate control and cruise control among others.
In the related news, Maruti Suzuki launched the BS VI-compliant version of its multi purpose vehicle Ertiga in CNG, priced at Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi) here. "Ertiga S-CNG, which offers a mileage of 28.06 km/kg is second BS VI compliant S-CNG vehicle and the only MPV with factory-fitted CNG in the country, from Maruti Suzuki," the company said.
