The first-ever Formula One driver from India, Narain Karthikeyan, is all set to drive his new beast in the city. Karthikeyan took keys of his new Porsche 911 GT3 in Mumbai and added the beast to his collection of flamboyant automobiles.
The 41-year-old racer, who drove for Jordan in 2005 and HRT during 2010-12 in the highest class of auto racing in the world, took the delivery from the Mumbai dealership of Porsche on Friday.
The Coimbatore-based F1 driver has opted for both the Clubsport package and the Sport Chrono package. The Clubsport package includes the GT3 sport bucket sets, while the Sport Chrono package includes the Track Precision app and lap trigger preparation, along with a stopwatch on the dashboard.
The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance version of the Porsche 911 sports car, which was primarily intended for racing. The 911 GT3 has been priced at Rs 2.3 crore at an ex-showroom price in India, but Karthikeyan’s might have cost a bit more since it is heavily customized.
The seats of his customized beast include Alcantara and leather finished seats, a six-point harness, roll cage and fire extinguisher.
The Porsche 911 GT3 is powered by a new 3.8-litre direct fuel injection (DFI) flat six-engine, which develops 475bhp of power at 8,250rpm. The engine is mated to either the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) double-clutch gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox.

The sports car comes with automatic transmission which goes from 0 to 100kmph in mere 3.4 seconds and gives a top speed of 318kmph. The manual transmission-equipped model, on the other hand, needs 0.5 seconds more to attain the 100kmph speed but boasts of a top speed of 320kmph.
The Porsche 911 GT3 comes with a standard aero package, along with larger wheel base, a massive wing at the rear end, and smoked headlamps with four-point LED DRLs.
