In India, Mahindra & Mahindra has launched a new base variant of XUV500 SUV, called the W3. The base variant of the XUV500 costs ₹ 12.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The W3 variant would be available across India at all Mahindra dealerships with immediate effect. It is to be noted that before the W3 was introduced, the base variant of the car was the W5 which costs Rs 12.80 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The new W3 variant is Rs 57,877 cheaper than the W5 variant.

First thing first, there are no changes in design as also in terms of the engine. The features list of W3 variant has projector headlights, jacquard fabric upholstery, dual front airbag, ABS with EBD, disc brakes on all wheels, power adjustable ORVMs, engine immobilizer and manual air-conditioner. The all new W3 variant is equipped with 152PS mHawk155 engine that generates 360Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The W3 is all set to compete with the Nexon XZ Plus diesel, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ZDi, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza ZDi+, Renault Duster RXS CVT, Nissan Kicks and the Hyundai Creta.

Recently, the company launched an updated version of its compact SUV TUV300 priced at Rs 8.38 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The SUV TUV300 features design enhancements and new features like piano black front grille with black chrome inserts, muscular side cladding and a newly designed X-shaped metallic grey spare wheel cover.

In other news, Mahindra and Mahindra and Ford have entered into an agreement to co-develop a midsize sports utility vehicle (SUV) that will be sold in India as well as other emerging markets.
