New Delhi:

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s largest carmaker, on Friday slashed the price of its compact-segment model Baleno RS by Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom price). Good news. Isn’t it? The move from Maruti Suzuki comes at least two days after the automaker reduced the prices of select models by Rs 5,000 following a cut in corporate taxes announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

According to a report of NDTV, in a BSE filing, the automaker said, "This is to inform that Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced a price reduction of select models by Rs 5,000/- on September 25, 2019. Along with the above reduction, the company has also reduced the Ex-Showroom price of its model i.e. Baleno RS by Rs 100,000/-."

As mentioned above, on Wednesday, Maruti Suzuki had reduced the prices of entry-level cars and diesel variants of all products by Rs 5,000. The list includes Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift Diesel, Celerio, Baleno Diesel, Ignis, Dzire Diesel, Tour S Diesel, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross.

Coming back to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS model, the ex-showroom price of the car in Delhi is Rs 5,58,602. It is worth mentioning here that the Baleno RS model is part of the company's Nexa series of premium and luxury cars.

In June this year, Maruti Suzuki Baleno had reached 6 lakh cumulative sales milestone in India. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited had then said, "The milestone of 6 Lakh unit cumulative sales in a record time of just 44 months clearly reflects Baleno's popularity. We thank our customers for their continued support that has helped Baleno to create this industry benchmark of fastest 6 lakh sales milestone."

It is worth mentioning here that Baleno was first launched in India in 2015 and since then the car has been the segment leader of the premium hatchback segment.

As far as the engineering of the Baleno RS variant is concerned, it is powered by a 3-cylinder, 1.0-litre Boosterjet DITC petrol engine. The engine produces 102 hp and 150 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
