Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Tuesday said its compact sedan Dzire has become the bestselling car in the country in the first eight months of the current fiscal with sales of over 1.2 lakh units. The company said the model currently has around 60 per cent market share in the compact sedan segment.
“Over years, Dzire has created a niche for itself amongst compact sedans. Gaining widespread acceptance, the model was conceptualised keeping in mind the customer demands,” MSI Executive Director (Marketing & Sales) Shashank Srivastava said in a statement. The third generation version of the model was launched in May 2017.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been in the Indian market for more than ten years now and so far the compact sedan has reached around 19 lakh customers. In the year 2018-19, Maruti Suzuki sold over 2.5 lakh units of the Dzire subcompact sedan averaging a monthly sales of 21,000 units.
It leads the pack in the segment and boasts of a market share of 55 per cent, while the Amaze is number 2. Maruti Suzuki Dzire is offered in a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine along with automated manual transmission or AMT offered on both models.
The compact sedan is priced between Rs 5.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 9.54 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Maruti Dzire is offered in a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine along with automated manual transmission or AMT offered on both models.
The petrol engine churns out 83 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine produces 75 bhp and 190 Nm of peak torque.
The petrol model has a claimed mileage of 22 kmpl, while the diesel Dzire has a claimed mileage of 28 kmpl. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an option for a 5-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift).
