By selling six lakh automatic passenger vehicles in India, Maruti Suzuki has created a new milestone. Out of these 6 lakh automatics sold, over 5 lakh vehicles are equipped with popular Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology. It is to be noted that India's largest carmaker offers automatic options in 12 models including Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Ciaz. The company gives three different automatic transmissions i.e. Auto Gear Shift (AGS), Automatic Transmission (AT) and Continuous Variable.

According to the company, the sales of automatic models increased in the last 5 years especially after the introduction of the popular AGS transmission technology. The AGS transmission technology was first introduced in Celerion in 2014. In the financial year 2018-19, the carmaker sold two lakh automatic units.

Maruti Suzuki India further claimed that its AGS technology is the most popular automatic choice. "Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and Maruti Suzuki Dzire are the most famous automatic variants," it added.

Among the markets where the automatic variants are particularly liked are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune.
