The iconic Maruti Suzuki WagonR has completed 20 years in India. First launched in 1999, over 24 lakh units of the WagonR has been sold in India. The hatchback has been consistently featured amongst India’s 10 top-selling cars in the last 20 years.
According to an official statement, Maruti Suzuki WagonR is liked for its bold design, high seating, enhanced space and high utility. “WagonR has been a repeat buy for over 25 per cent of its customers,” the automaker added.

We have not witnessed such customer loyalty for any of our other models. We thank our customers for their trust towards Wagon R, to make it a huge success.”
“With the new 1.2 litre engine, WagonR has been made more powerful, spacious and stylish, appealing to newer and younger customers. Further, its acceptability is evident with the New WagonR crossing the sales milestone of 1 lakh within 7 months of its launch,” he added.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR is available in three variants i.e. LXI, VXI and ZXI. The price for the WagonR ranges between Rs 4.42 lakh to Rs 5.91 lakh. Maruti Suzuki WagonR rivals against the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago.
The hatchback comes equipped with two BS6-compliant petrol engine options i.e. 1.0-litre K10B and 1.2-litre K12M. While the 1.0-litre motor churns out 68 hp and 90 Nm of torque, the 1.2-litre engine produces 83 hp and 113 Nm of torque. There is an option available between 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AGS (auto gear shift).
Outside, Maruti Suzuki WagonR gets body-coloured bumpers, door handles and ORVMs, electrically retractable/adjustable ORVM with integrated signal lamp, full wheel caps, and roof antenna and front fog lamps.
Inside the cabin, features it include multifunction steering wheel, 7-inch Smartplay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, tilt steering and rear defogger, among others.

The hatchback is based on the Heartect platform. On the safety features front, the WagonR has ABS with EBD, driver airbag, speed alert system, rear parking sensors, central locking and driver, and co-driver seat belt reminder.
