India’s leading automobile manufacturer Mercedes Benz launched its first-ever BS-VI variant car in the market on Monday. The new S 350d becomes the country’s first made-in-India BS-VI diesel vehicle.

The company launched two cars on the same day, one being the S 350d and the other being the S 450. The S 450 is a petrol variant priced at Rs 1.37 crore, whereas the diesel variant S 350d is priced at Rs 1.33 crore at an ex-showroom price.

Mercedes Benz has globally registered a total sale of over 3 lakh units, while the new S 350d and S 450 variants aim to raise the bar to a higher number. The BS-VI norm has been met by the company two years ahead of the government’s deadline and is capable of running on the currently available BS-IV fuel.

The German carmaker had already launched the new Maybach S 650 along with its S 560 variant at the 2018 Auto Expo in New Delhi, which is priced at Rs 2.73 crore and Rs 1.94 crore, respectively, at an ex-showroom price.

The facelift model of the S-Class features all-new bumpers with sportier lines and a wider grille at the front. The adaptive LED headlamps are redesigned and provide the car with an all-new façade. The tail lamps get new internals, while the wheels are replaced by new alloy ones.

The S 350d is powered by the OM 656 diesel engine, which claims to be the most powerful passenger car diesel engine designed by Mercedes-Benz till now in India. The in-line six-cylinder motor gives a power output of 286hp and a peak torque of 600Nm.

Apart from the engine changes, the Mercedes-Benz S -Class gets an array of internal and external features. The S-Class is the first product of the company to support radar-based driving assistance and safety systems in India.

The S-Class comes with a panoramic sliding sunroof with an obstruction sensor, along with two electric roller sunblind which provides shade for the occupants in strong sunlight.

The multi-functional steering wheel gets touch control buttons and is combined with cruise control in the left-hand grip area.
