German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today launched S 400 sedan in India priced at Rs 1.31 crore (ex-showroom Hyderabad) as it looks to further strengthen its position in the country. The company, which has introduced the model in Hyderabad to start with, plans to locally produce the vehicle at its Chakan plant in Pune.
“With the launch of the S 400, we further extend the S-Class model range and also bolster our strong presence in the prestigious S-Class segment,” Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Roland Folger said in a statement.
Mercedes-Benz believes in introducing the latest products and variants in the market at regular intervals, to keep customer interest and curiosity intact in the brand, he said. “This strategy we firmly believe has contributed to our unmatched success in India,” Folger added.
“This is yet another firm affirmation of our vision of ‘Make in India’, and our unwavering commitment to the Indian customer in presenting the best of our global offerings,” Folger further said.
The S 400 has a 3-litre, V6 petrol engine with a maximum torque of 480Nm and power of 324bhp. It is paired to a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The vehicle comes with various safety features including eight airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), 360 degree surround view camera and an active park assist.
Other features include massage function with six different programs, individual entertainment systems in the rear and Burmester 3D surround sound system with 24 speakers.
