With MG Hector and Kia Seltos, the SUV segment has become talk of the town. The two SUVs can be termed as arch-rivals. Hector SUV was launched in India by Morris Garages (MG Motor) on June 27 this year. The maiden product of MG Motor is one of the first connected SUVs to be launched in India. Hector bookings had started on June 4 for an initial sum of Rs 50,000 and by the time it was launched, the company had garnered more than 10,000 bookings for the SUV.

Kia Seltos, on the other hand, was unveiled on June 20. The South Korean carmaker's maiden product in the country will be launched on August 22. However, before the exclusive launch, the exclusive details about the variants of all-new Seltos SUV has been leaked. Kia Seltos will reportedly will available in five variants including TE, TK, TK+, TX and TX+. Kia Motors started the official bookings for Seltos on July 16 for a token amount of Rs 25,000.

In terms of features, both Kia Seltos and MG Hector are exceptional. So, let's find out how these two brand new SUVs fare against each other on the basis of features, technical specifications and prices?

MG Hector SUV

The length and width of MG Hector is 4,655 mm and 1,835 mm respectively. The height and wheelbase of MG Hector are 1,760 mm and 2,750 mm respectively.

In terms of the engine, MG Hector comes with the option of both petrol and diesel powertrains. There is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine good for 143 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque, with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. You can have it with a 6-speed DCT (Double Clutch Transmission) also. Then there is a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor producing 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. It is mated with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Hector also gets a segment first 48V Hybrid System with the petrol trim. Boasting of better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, this variant also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox.

MG Hector comes with the features including LED headlamps and front and rear fog lamps, LED DRLs and tail lamps, dual tone machined alloys and floating light turn indicators. There will be a 7-inch coloured MID and a 10.4-inch HD touchscreen AVN system. It also features the next-gen iSMART connectivity technology.

Other features the SUV offers include a premium cabin equipped with power adjustable seats, electronic parking brake, 360-degree camera and cruise control.

MG Hector will be offered in four variants - Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. It will come in five colours - glaze red, burgundy red, starry black, aurora silver and candy white.

The Hector SUV starts at Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India) going all the way up to Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Kia Seltos

Kia Seltos will come with BS VI compliant powertrain.

Kia Seltos will come with an option of 1.4 litre Turbo GDI petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. It will also come with multiple automatic transmission options like IVT, 7-speed DCT and 6-speed AT and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The compact SUV will be available in normal, eco and sports drive modes.

The mid-size SUV will have the iconic tiger-nose grille with full LED headlamps on the front and vertically housed LED fog lamps. On the rear, the car will be equipped with LED taillights and dual exhaust pipes.

Along with 17-inch five-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels, the compact SUV will come with roof rails and shark fin antenna.

Inside the cabin, the new Kia Seltos will feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen audio video navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The compact SUV will also get features like 8-inch HUD (Heads Up Display), blind-spot view monitor, EPS (Electronic Power Steering), eco coating, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and push-button start/stop.

On the safety features front, the car will carry multiple airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist), reverse parking sensors and camera, the compact SUV also gets VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), TCS (Traction Control System) and HAC (Hill-start Assist Control). There will be a 360-degree camera as well.

The SUV will be offered in five variants including TE, TK, TK+, TX and TX+.

The price of Seltos is expected to range between Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
