Tata Motors has entered in the premium hatchback segment with Altroz which is launched on Wednesday at a price starting from Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be in direct competition with already established cars in this segment including Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Volkswagen Polo. Tata Altroz is based on the design which was first showcased in the 2018 Auto Expo as 45X Concept.
The premium hatchback measures 3990 mm long, 1755 mm wide and 1523 mm height. It comes with a 2501 mm long wheelbase and an unladen ground clearance of 165 mm. While the petrol version of the car weighs 1036 kg, the diesel model weighs 1150 kg. The top-end model comes with a set of 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, while the lower variants come with a set of 15 inches.
The top-end variant of Tata Altroz comes equipped with projector headlamps, LED DRLs, fog lamps (front and rear), and rear defogger. The cabin includes a 4-way adjustable driver seat and a 2-way adjustable front passenger seat. It further gets a 7-inch TFT colour display with media & navigation from Harman.
The system boasts of an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, video playback and more. Other features Tata Altroz include power windows, engine push-button start/stop, fast charging, smart key, rear AC vents, electric tailgate, cruise control, rain-sensing wiper, Ideal Start Stop, auto headlamps and many more.
On the safety features front, the vehicle includes dual airbags, seatbelt reminders, speed sensing auto door lock, engine immobiliser, ISOFIX child seat mounts, cornering foglamps.
Tata Altroz’s Engine Options
Tata Altoz petrol version is powered by a Revotron 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated engine. The 1199 cc motor churns out 85 bhp at 6000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 113 Nm at 3300 rpm. On the other hand, the diesel model of Tata Altoz is powered by a Revotorq, 1.5-litre Common Rail Turbo Intercooled oil burner.
The 1497 cc, four-cylinder motor belts out 89 bhp at 4000 rpm and develops 200 Nm of peak torque at 1250-3000 rpm. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. There is no automatic transmission on offer.
