German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has announced its new drop-top version of the T-Roc Compact SUV, which will be the first convertible SUV by the German company.
The car is said to be produced at the Osnabruck plant in Germany, and the production is set to start by 2020. The company will invest 80 million Euros (approximately 640 crores) in the production of the T-Roc Compact SUV.
The German automaker has not revealed the cabriolet of the T-Roc yet, so it is hard to tell whether the car will have a hard-folding roof or a soft-folding roof.
The T-Roc was launched in August last year and is smaller than the Volkswagen Tiguan and became a new contender in the compact vehicles segment like Toyota’s C-HR and Nissan Qashqai.
The car is driven by Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system in the front-wheels and is available with bigger engines. The petrol engines include a 1-litre TSI engine with 85kW maximum power and a maximum torque of 200Nm.
The petrol engine also comes in 1.5-litre TSI engine with 140kW of maximum power and a peak torque of 320Nm. The diesel buyers have a choice of either 1.6-litre TDI engine with 110kW power and 340Nm of peak torque or a 2.0 TDI engine with 140kW power and 400Nm of peak torque.

A six-speed manual and six-speed DSG gearboxes are offered with the beast.
The T-Roc's cabin is highly digitised, with a digital instrument cluster available as an option, along with a range of infotainment systems.
Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said, “Volkswagen is evolving into an SUV brand. The T-Roc is already setting new standards in the compact SUV segment. With the cabriolet based on the T-Roc, we will be adding a highly emotional model to the range. I am especially pleased to note that we can count on the Osnabrück team's decades of experience with convertibles. The Osnabrück plant now has bright prospects for the future.”
