YEARENDER 2019: This year India's auto sector witnessed a massive slowdown, however, that didn't stop automakers from launching new offerings. Right from MG Hector SUV to Maruti Suzuki X-Presso, almost every automaker drove their new vehicles in India this year. In fact, some of the cars were so popular that the manufacturers had to stop bookings for a while. News Nation brings to you a list of cars at what most of the buyers were eyeing bring home within a Rs 20 lakh budget. 

KIA SELTOS

Kia Seltos was launched on August 22, 2019 in India with prices starting at Rs 9.69 lakh for the base petrol, going up to Rs 15.99 lakh (all prices, showroom) for the range-topping diesel.

Kia Seltos comes with BS-VI compliant powertrain. The SUV comes with an option of a 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol engine that produces 138 bhp and 242 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic transmission. The SUV comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 113 bhp and 144 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual and an IVT (Intelligent continuously variable transmission) automatic transmission.

Also, Kia Seltos comes with a 1.5-litre VGT diesel that belts out 113 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The compact SUV is available in normal, eco and sports drive modes. It also gets different traction modes like Snow and Mud.

MARUTI S-PRESSO

Maruti Suzuki's S-Presso was recently launched in India. It starts at Rs 3.69 lakh (ex-showroom India) and goes up to Rs 4.91 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Maruti S-Presso comes equipped with a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre three-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that will produce 67 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an AMT option as well.

HYUNDAI VENUE

Hyundai Motor India's first SUV i.e. Venue was launched in India on May 21, 2019 at a price of Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Hyundai Venue comes in both petrol and diesel engines with the petrol being offered with the dual-clutch transmission. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor generates 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. It is equipped with a dual-clutch transmission while a six-speed manual is also on offer. It comes in four trims - E, S, SX and SX(O).

The 1.4-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel produces 89 bhp and 220 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the automatic version in the diesel variant is not on offer. On the other hand, the Venue is also available in the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol (gasoline motor). It churns out 82 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque, which is paired with only a 5-speed manual transmission.

MG HECTOR

MG Hector is one of the first connected SUVs to be launched in India. The prices of the Hector SUV starts at Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India) going all the way up to Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

In terms of the engine, MG Hector comes with the option of both, petrol and diesel powertrains. There is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine good for 141 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. You can have it with a 6-speed DCT (Double Clutch Transmission) also. Then there is a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor producing 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. It is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Hector SUV also gets a segment-first 48V Hybrid System with the petrol trim. Boasting of better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, this variant also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox.

HYUNDAI GRAND i10 NIOS

Launched on August 20, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has priced between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Grand i10 Nios comes equipped with one petrol and one diesel engine option. The 1.2-litre petrol churns out 82 bhp and 114 Nm. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.2-litre diesel produces 74 bhp and 190 Nm of torque. It also comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both trims are available in the 5-speed automatic transmission (AMT) as well.

MAHINDRA XUV300

Launched in February this year, Mahindra XUV300 is priced between Rs 7.90 Lakh to Rs 11.95 Lakh.

Mahindra XUV300 is available with two engine options in four variants – W4, W6, W8 and W8(O). A 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 110 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, on the other hand, mills out 115 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is also paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional AMT.

MARUTI SUZUKI XL6

India's largest auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki on August 21 launched its much-awaited MPV XL6 in the Indian market at the starting price of Rs 9.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki XL6 comes with a BS-VI compliant K15 petrol engine along with Smart Hybrid technology. It is offered across two variant levels with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. The premium MPV is powered by a BSVI compliant 1.5-litre K15B Smart Hybrid petrol engine that will deliver 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque. It comes with manual as well as automatic transmission options.

RENAULT TRIBER

Renault Triber was recently launched in India. The compact seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle Triber is priced between Rs 4.95 lakh and Rs 6.49 lakh.

Powering the Triber is the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine that belts out 71 bhp and 96 Nm of peak torque. There is a five-speed manual transmission as standard and tips the scale at 947 kg.

TATA HARRIER

Tata Harrier is priced between Rs 12.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

In the Harrier, you get only one engine option. Harrier comes with a Kryotec 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that makes 140 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is no automatic transmission option available in the car.

HONDA CIVIC

Back in March, Japanese carmaker Honda launched the tenth generation of its popular sedan Civic in the Indian market for a starting price of Rs 17,69 lakh.

The tenth generation of Honda Civic comes in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine has a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol motor which produces 141 PS of power at 6500 rpm and 174 Nm of torque at 4300 rpm. The engine is paired with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). On the other hand, the diesel engine comes with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbo motor which can produce 120 PS of power at 4000 rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
