As Delhi continues to choke under severe air pollution, the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule has come into effect in the national capital. Under this enforcement mechanism, vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates will be denied fuel at petrol pumps. The rule is being implemented with the support of Delhi Police personnel and makes use of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and voice alert systems at petrol pumps.

As authorities intensify efforts to control pollution in Delhi, here is what is a PUC certificate and how you can download it online from the comfort of your home.

What is PUC certificate?

The Government of India issues the PUC certificate, which serves as proof that your vehicle’s exhaust emissions meet the limits set by law. It is mandatory to carry a valid PUC certificate while driving. Each PUC certificate issued is uploaded to the government Parivahan system, allowing owners to view or download a copy online.

“Vehicle owners can obtain the Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate online by entering the vehicle registration number, last 5 digits of the chassis number, and a security code. This certificate confirms that the vehicle meets the required emission norms. It is mandatory for all vehicles and must be renewed regularly to avoid penalties under pollution control laws,” according to the National Government Services Portal.
