New Delhi:

After a day of brief pause, fuel prices continued its rise on Tuesday with petrol retailing at Rs 84 per litre in Delhi with a hike of 15 paise from Rs 83.85 on Monday. While in Mumai, petrol was priced at Rs 91.34, implying a hike of 14 paise. Diesel on the other side was priced at Rs 75.45 per litre after a hike of 20 paise in the national capital, whereas in Mumbai, diesel cost Rs 80.10 after an increase of 21 paise.

“Petrol and Diesel prices in Delhi are Rs 84 per litre (increase by Rs 0.15) & Rs 75.45 per litre (increase by Rs 0.20), repectively. Petrol & Diesel prices in Mumbai are Rs 91.34 litre (increase by Rs 0.14) & Rs 80.10 (increase by Rs 0.21), respectively,” News Agency ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Petrol was priced at Rs 85.80 in Kolkata on Thursday, while diesel can be purchased at Rs 77.30. In Chandigarh, petrol price stood at Rs 80.85 while diesel was priced at 73.36.

In Chennai, petrol price stood at Rs 87.33 while diesel was marked at Rs 79.79.

Continuing its steep rise in recent months, petrol could be purchased at Rs 89.79 in Bhopal, whereas diesel was priced at 79.50. While Bengaluru witnessed the petrol price to be at Rs 84.67 with diesel hitting the Rs 75.84 mark.

Retail selling prices have been increasing since July 30 as international rates have inched up since then.

On September 24, petrol price broke all the records and touched the all-time high of Rs 90 in Mumbai following rupee’s falling value and rise in international crude oil price. Prices also remained the highest in Mumbai due to highest VAT in the city as compared to other metropolitan cities.

Taxes on petrol and diesel are one of the highest in India as the consumers are paying nearly 40 per cent tax on petrol in Delhi including excise duty and state VAT.

Earlier, subsidised cooking gas (LPG) price witnessed a steep rise by Rs 2.89 per cylinder to Rs 502.4, while the price on non-subsidised LPG at Delhi saw a rise of Rs 50.0 per cylinder.
