Acting Finance Minister Piyush Goyal presented a populist Budget which had something for everyone. From farmers to defence personnel to women to the middle class, the Budget speech included sops that garnered praise from all quarters. Let us take a look at how the public, as well as the politicians, reacted to the Interim Budget 2019.
It comes as no surprise when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that "this budget will help achieve the dream of a 'New India'." Union minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the Budget has shown the commitment of the government to the welfare of every section of the society. On the other hand, Congress leader Majeed Memon said, "It is not a Budget. The government is going to change."
Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister:
My compliments to Shri Piyush Goyal for delivering an excellent Budget. The Budget furthers the agenda of the Government headed by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to comprehensively address the challenges of the economy.Â

Neeru Ahuja, Partner, Deloitte:
We all were expecting it, If we add up all the things then people with an annual income around Rs 7.5 lakh won’t have to pay tax. It wasn’t the full budget, it was interim budget, so I would give it a 8/8.5 out of 10.

Shashi Tharoor, Congress:
The whole exercise has turned out to be a damp squib. We've seen one good thing that is tax exemption for the middle class. Rs 6000 in income support for farmers boils down to Rs 500 per month. Is that supposed to enable them to live with the honour&dignity?
Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress:
The Budget presented in Parliament is BJP's election manifesto.
Yogendra Yadav, Swaraj India leader:
#Budget2019 actually rubs salt in the wounds of farmers The 'historic' 6,000 rupees a year for a family of 5 translates to Rs 3.3 a day. This is even lower than MNREGA or old-age pension!

#Budget2019 places immense resources in hands of farmers & middle class. This will boost demand particularly in rural areas, increase the pace of economic growth specially agriculture without distorting markets & credit culture. Development getting democratised.

Interim FM @PiyushGoyal claimed farmers are receiving fair MSP & the govt. is on track to double their income - if this was true why were there 5 nation wide farmer protests in 2018?

Amit Shah, BJP president:
The budget has met the expectations of farmers, labourers & middle class. By bearing a cost of Rs 75,000 crore, the govt will implement Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. This scheme will also benefit those farmers who do not take loans.
