Soon after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday presented the first Budget of the Modi 2.0 government, political leaders from Opposition parties came down heavily with wide-ranging criticism. While the government patted its back and vowed to make India a USD 5 trillion economy in the next five years, the opposition launched a full frontal attack, accusing it of keeping silent on employment generation farmers' apathy and other crucial issues concerning the nation today.

Here is what Opposition leaders had to say about the Union Budget 2019:

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha:

Nothing new, repetition of old promises. They are talking about new India but the budget is old wine in a new bottle. Nothing new, no plan for employment generation, no new initiatives.

Kapil Sibal, Congress:

Speaking to The Hindu, Congress leader Kapil Sibal dubbed the Union Budget "vision-less and provision-less".

Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress spokesperson:

In a blestering attack at the Modi 2.0 government's Budget 2019, Surjewala called it utterly lacklustre, nondescript, uninspiring and directionless. "Budget 2019 Modi 2.0 - Corporates with an annual turnover of ₹400,00,00,000 (₹400Cr) get an income tax break from 30% to 25%. No relief for honest 'tax payer'!" the Congress leader said in a series of tweets.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar:

JDU chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, however, welcomed the Modi government's Budget 2019, saying the target to take Indian economy to $5 trillion is worth appreciating. Kumar also praised the Har Ghar Jal Yojana (tap water to every household) of the Modi 2.0 dispensation.
