Amid a challenging business environment, Infosys is expected to lay off hundreds of employees including the mid-level and senior-level ones. According to reports, the company will carry a bi-annual performance review for the same.
It is to be noted that the company’s rivals Wipro and Cognizant have recently taken the similar steps to control costs.
However, Infosys on May 2 committed to hire 10,000 Americans in the next two years besides creating four new centre in the US. The move by the company was also appreciated by the White House.
Infosys spokesperson said, “Our performance management process provides for a bi-annual assessment of performance... A continued low feedback on performance could lead to certain performance actions, including separation of an individual and this is done only after feedback.”

The reports claimed that the number of people to be impacted would be in hundreds, although the spokesperson didn’t reveal much about it.
“We do this every year and the numbers could vary every performance cycle,” the spokesperson said, adding that the assessment is based on individual goals and strategic priorities of the company.
Earlier, Cognizant, the US-based company had rolled out a voluntary separation programme for directors, associate VPs and senior VPs, offering them 6-9 months of salary.
Talking about Wipro, it is learnt that it has also asked about 600 employees to leave as part of of its annual “performance appraisal”. However, there are speculations that the number could go up to 2,000.
The IT companies being one of the largest recruiters in the country have said that increasing in automation of processes would lead to reduction in hiring in future.
