He was chosen to step into the shoes of interim Chairman Ratan Tata, who took over on October 24 last year after the removal of Mistry. At TCS, Chandrasekaran would be succeeded by Rajesh Gopinathan, currently the company’s chief financial officer.

Here is who said what:

Ishaat Hussain, TCS Director: "He is absolutely the perfect choice, a great leader"

Arundhati Bhattacharya, SBI Chairman: "We heartily welcome the appointment of Mr. Chandrasekaran as the chairman of Tata Sons. Sure that this will enable Tata Group to continue in its endeavour in retaining their premiere position in country."

Tata Sons: “The Board of Directors of Tata Sons, at its meeting today, appointed N Chandrasekaran as Executive Chairman. This is as per the unanimous recommendation of the Selection Committee.”
