The Reserve Bank today said it will soon issue banknotes of Rs 20 denomination with an inset letter ‘S’ in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005.
“The Reserve Bank will shortly issue Rs 20 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005, with inset letter S in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Raghuram G Rajan, Governor, RBI,” the apex bank said in a statement.
The year of printing, 2016, will appear on the reverse. The design of banknotes to be issued will be similar in all aspects to the Rs 20 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 issued earlier, RBI added.
“All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 20 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender,” it clarified.
