The rupee appreciated by 17 paise to 66.67 against the dollar today on sustained selling of the US currency by exporters and banks, with a higher opening in the equity market backing it up.
Forex dealers said weakness in the dollar against some other currencies overseas and continued inflows by foreign funds too supported the rupee.
Yesterday, the rupee had settled flat at 66.84 against the US currency. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered by 58.12 points or 0.20 per cent to 28,143.28 in early trade today.
