Baidu has partnered with WWF for Earth Hour

The Earth Hour will be observed on Saturday, March 19 at 8:30 PM. Three DU apps belonging to the Chinese language Internet search provider, Baidu have already launched a week-long social media campaign. The initiative has been taken to inspire millions of people to support WWF’s global movement. For this, users will be required to ‘shine a light’ via fun online game.

What is Earth Hour?

WWF’s Earth Hour is the largest grassroots movement in the world for the environment and is spread over 170 countries and territories. Homes, offices and landmarks in more than 7,000 cities, observe the Earth Hour every year by switching off lights for one hour during the global lights out event, thus marking their support to the cause. 

What is ‘Light Up the Night’?

The DU Group, which is a mobile product team of Baidu, released an interactive game called "Light Up the Night" on March 12, one week before the Earth Hour. The purpose to launch the game was to encourage hundreds of millions users of the of DU Battery Saver, DU Speed Booster and ES File to play "Light Up the Night" and virtually switch off the lights to show their commitment to climate action.

What DU Group says?

"Climate change is one of today's most pressing issues," said Tang Cailin, product director of DU Group. "Together with WWF, we're reaching out to hundreds of millions of people to let their voices be heard and to encourage them to be a part of global efforts to change climate change," he added.

The DU Group has joined WWF’s Earth Hour campaign for the third year in a row.
