Online booking for world’s cheapest mobile phone, Freedom 251, resumed on Friday. The official site had crashed on Thursday after huge response from the people.

According to reports, more than six lakh devices were booked within seconds Ringing Bells started booking for the device.

“Dear friends, we are very grateful for your enormous response and your kind patronage and would submit that as of now we received approx. Six Lacs hits per second as a result of your kind overwhelming response, servers are over loaded,” Freedom251 said on its website on Wednesday after the site collapsed.”We humbly submit that we are therefore taking a pause and upgrading the service and will revert within or before 24 hours,” it added.

Ringing Bells’ President Ashok Chaddha said manufacturing cost of the phone is about Rs 2,500, which will be recovered through a series of measures like economies of scale, innovative marketing, reduction in duties and creating an e-commerce marketplace.


The world’s cheapest smartphone comes with a 4-inch qHD display and is powered by a Qualcomm 1.3-GHz quad-core processor. It has 1 GB RAM, 8 GB storage system and supports expandable memory upto 32 GB. The dual SIM device also features a 3.2 MP Rear camera and a 0.3 MP front camera.
