The online filing system of the tax department developed a technical snag affecting taxpayers to upload their annual statements.
Times of India reported that the online tax filing system had stopped functioning and showing glitches on Saturday just days ahead of the deadline. On Sunday the online tax filing system was working normally.
The English daily quoting a CBDT spokeswoman wrote, It is a hardware glitch. The site has not crashed. The technical team is working on it and it should be up and running shortly," a CBDT spokeswoman said.
A user had complained that he had been trying two hours but was not able to feed the required data required for filing the returns on online filing system.

A tax consultants said the department's filing system had been working slow since Saturday morning and completely stopped accepting returns by evening.

The deadline for filing returns is July 31. The government has made it mandatory to link the Aadhaar number with the permanent account number (PAN) this year.
