The Income Tax department has launched a new facility for taxpayers which will allow them to get an instant PAN card online using their Aadhaar number and that too free of cost. Earlier, the taxpayers had to fill up a 2-page application form and wait for days to get a new PAN card. The department has kept the new process extremely easy and mass friendly. In the latest instant e-PAN card application form, the applicants need to give only their Aadhaar number, after which an OTP will be sent on their linked mobile phone number for completion of e-KYC process.

In just 10 minutes, a Permanent Account Number (PAN) will be issued to the applicant. The applicants must note that they can get a laminated PAN card if they want by ordering a reprint for just ₹50.

Here is the process through which the taxpayers can apply for instant PAN card online:

  • Visit the income tax department's e-filing portal

  • Click on "Instant PAN through Aadhaar" section under "Quick Links"
  • Click on "Get New PAN" on the new page.

  • Enter your Aadhaar number for allotment of new PAN card and the
  • Captcha code will be generated and an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile phone will be sent
  • Validate OTP.
  • Validate Aadhaar details.

  • The applicant must note that they will have an option to validate your email id as well for PAN card application.

The e-KYC data of that Aadhaar number is exchanged with the Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) after which the applicant will be allotted an instant e-PAN.

The applicant can also download the Permanent Account Number in pdf format by submitting the Aadhaar number at "Check Status/ Download PAN". They can also get the PAN in PDF format via their email, if it is registered with Aadhaar database.

It is important to mention that the facility is only available to those who have never been allotted a PAN before, mobile phone number is linked to Aadhaar number and complete date of birth in DD-MM-YYYY format is available on the Aadhaar card.

Besides, the instant e-PAN card facility is not available to minors.
