Google Doodle celebrates 184th birth anniversary of ‘Little Women’ author Louisa May Alcott
Google on Tuesday paid homage to American novelist and poet Louisa May Alcott on her 184th birth anniversary. Alcott is best known for her novel Little Women (1868) and its sequels Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886).
Done by artist Sophie Diao, the Doodle portrays the girls from the March family – Beth, Jo, Amy and Meg – as well as Jo’s best friend Laurie, their neighbour (who later goes on to marry Amy) from Alcott’s semi-autobiographical book Little Women.
Published in 1868, Little Women is set in the Alcott family home, Hillside, later called the Wayside, in Concord, Massachusetts and is loosely based on Alcott's childhood experiences with her three sisters.
Incidentally, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was on Monday quoted by a newspaper saying that Alcott’s Little Women should be included in school curriculum.
