Even as the government mandate to fit CBS in two-wheelers kicks in from next year, country’s second largest player Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, on Tuesday said it has already sold over 10 million scooters and bikes with the combi brake system (CBS) since 2009.

“We are delighted to share that in just seven years, over 1 crore bikes and scooters with the CBS technology have been sold. Today, every second Honda two-wheeler customer is choosing the convenience of CBS with equalizer technology,” HMSI President and Chief Executive Keita Muramatsu said in a statement.

The Union Transport Ministry had last year issued a notification making mandatory ABS (anti-lock braking system) or CBS (combined braking system) from April 2017 on all two-wheelers with over 125-cc engines.

Under this, all the new bike models that will launch after April 2017 will have ABS or CBS installed in them and for the existing bike models available in market currently, the deadline for manufacturers to fit the safety equipment is April 2018.

“We are the first two-wheeler manufacturer worldwide to introduce dual clutch transmission system, airbag system in our motorcycles, advanced technologies like idle stop system introduced 15 years ago. I am proud to share that the CBS was introduced over 30 years ago have brought smiles to over 1 crore riders here already.”

He also said Honda’s flagship Activa scooters with 125 cc engines and all the bikes have built-in CBS now.

Elaborating on the technology and its benefits, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, HMSI Senior Vice-President for Sales and Marketing, said “In 2009, Honda become the first two-wheeler company in the country to introduce the CBS with the unique equalizer advantage.

“We are delighted to share that in just seven years, over 1 crore satisfied customers are riding confidently with the CBS advantage that Honda has given them much ahead of the times,” Guleria said.
