Aadhar card or unique identification number has become essential in the life of any Indian citizen. Aadhaar has become the basis to avail most of the government schemes, including income tax returns, government subsidies, scholarships and even mid-day meals at schools. The central governments move to make linking of the Aadhaar number to several government services mandatory this is aimed at curbing corruption and circulation of black money and most importantly increasing the reach of benefits to the right beneficiaries.
The tax net in the country has widened and the government is checking strictly the status of those people who possess multiple Aadhaar and PAN cards. In fact, the government has recently deactivated close to 81 lakh Aadhaar cards and 11 lakh PAN numbers. The government agencies recently identified and deactivated 11,44,211 PAN numbers as in most cases multiple PANs were allotted to one person.The UIDAI deactivated close to 81 lakh Aadhaar numbers. The deactivation (suspension) of Aadhaar numbers was done as per the Aadhaar Life Cycle Management (ALCM) guideline.So now you need to check the status of your Aadhaar and PAN to know if they are still active.
Here's how you can check Aadhar number:
1.Visit the official website of Unique Identification Authority of India's, uidai.gov.in.
2.Go to the 'Verify Aadhaar Number ' link on the website that is given on the right side of the homepage.
3.Enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number in the box to verify if your Aadhaar number is valid or not.In the second field, called 'Enter Security Code', fill in the code as displayed on the image and click 'Verify'.
4.If your number is valid, then a page will be shown, which will display a message confirming the status of the Aadhaar number entered. In the case of invalid Aadhaar number, the page says that the number does not exist.
Steps to check Pan number:
1.Visit e-filing website of Income Tax Department i.e incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.Click on the 'Know Your PAN' option.
2.On the next page, fill up your details such as name, status, date of birth and phone number.
3.After this click the 'Submit' button.
4.On the next page, enter the OTP password received on your registered mobile number and hit 'Validate'.
5.If the PAN number is not duplicated it will indicate 'Active' under the 'Remarks' column.
Those whose Aadhaar is inactive on checking the status can visit the closest Aadhaar enrollment center. There you have to fill up the Aadhaar update form. Your Aadhaar card will be validated after bio-metrics are re-verified. The card will not be updated if your biometrics don't match with the previous record. You have to pay Rs 25 for the update.
