Know more about key features of new Rs 200 note

The Centre on Wednesday announced that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to introduce the Rs 200 denomination banknotes for the first time in history of India by August end or in the first week of September. It will be the fourth note to be introduced since the government’s demonetisation move in November 2016.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November last year announced that the Rs 500 and 1,000 notes would no longer be legal tender. Banning these notes, the new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes were introduced. Last week, the RBI announced to issue new Rs 50 currency notes with motif of Hampi with Chariot on reverse.

Talking about the new Rs 200 note, it will be equipped with high-end security features like all other new notes introduced by the RBI.

Features of the Rs 200 denomination banknote:

* The new Rs 200 notes are printed in fluorescent ink and have optical fibres. Both will be visible when exposed to the ultra-violet lamp.

* Is has been designed keeping in mind the visually impaired people. It is expected there will be raised printing of father of the nation and Ashoka Pillar emblem.

* The Rs 200 note is likely to have a motif of India's Mars orbiter and the Mangalyaan on the reverse.

* A colour-shifting windowed security thread with 'भारत' inscribed on it will also be there on the note.

* On the left side of the note, there will be a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, Ashoka Pillar Emblem, the Reserve Bank seal and guarantee & promise clause.

* The RBI Governor’s signature will be imprinted in raised prints.

The Finance Ministry, in a notification, said that on the recommendations of the Central Board of Directors of the RBI, “the central government hereby specifies the denomination of banknotes of the value of two hundred rupees”.
