Aluminum major NALCO is all set to start an aluminum foil manufacturing unit at Kamakshyanagar in Odisha which can produce an eco-friendly alternative to plastic baggage.

NALCO is expected to meet the challenges of providing different solutions to the packaging sector and would set up the manufacturing unit in coming days, said CMD of the Navaratna CPSE, Tapan Kumar Chand, adding that the use of aluminum foil as an alternative to plastic packaging is eco-friendly and can be recycled.

The NALCO CMD while speaking at the ‘Swachhata hi Seva movement’ programme held at Bhubaneswar, in Odisha on Sunday.

Chand also spoke about NALCO’s eco-friendly initiatives and outlined the future plans to adopt EMRION-Nanotechnology for the treatment of solid waste management technology with a tie-up with IIT.

NALCO has also started initiatives under CSR activities to develop Puri of Odisha under the ‘Swachh Iconic Place’ project to benefit the pilgrims by creating top-notch infrastructure and facilities.

“The importance of safe and clean drinking water is of utmost importance as the congregation of people is more at tourist destinations and maintaining cleanliness is a daunting task,” Chand said.

NALCO are planning for eco-friendly battery operated vehicles for the specially-abled and elderly people at Puri, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar railway stations, he said.
