Nifty ends 15 points up in volatile trade

Nifty ends 15 points up in volatile trade

Mumbai:

Nifty benchmark ended with a modest gain of 15 points following volatile trade amid mixed global cues on Monday. Realty, Metal, Energy and Infra counters witnessed sustained buying. However, selling in PSU Bank, IT, Media and Pharma sectors capped the gains.

Overseas, the Asian stocks ended mixed as investors focussed on US tax reform. European markets were trading flat amid political instability in Germany.

The NSE Nifty opened higher at 10,287.20 and moved in a range of 10,309.85 and 10,261.50 before ending at 10,298.75, modestly up 15.15 points, or 0.15 per cent from its last close.

It saw an intra-day movement of about 48.35 points.The broader markets outperformed benchmarks, indicesNifty Midcap and Smallcap rose by 0.79 per cent and 0.54 per cent, respectively.

Sector-wise, Realty climbed by 2.12 per cent followed by Metal 1.31 per cent, Energy 0.98 per cent, Infra 0.79 per cent, FMCG 0.41 per cent, Private Bank 0.31 per cent, Auto 0.29 per cent and Bank 0.16 per cent.

However, PSU Bank fell by 0.92 per cent, IT 0.45 per cent, Media 0.23 per cent, Pharma 0.20 per cent and Finance Service 0.19 per cent.

Major index gainers were, GAIL, Yes Bank, Bosch Ltd, Vedanta, Coal India, Kotak Bank, Hindalco and IbulHsgFin. Losers included, Ambuja Cement, Dr Reddy, ICICI Bank, UltraCemCo, TechM, HDFC, Infosys and M&M.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market was in favour of gainers. On the NSE, 1,103 stocks advanced, 650 declined and 74 remained unchanged.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 197. Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 27,899.65 crore from Rs 36,807.32 crore as on Friday.

A total of 14,201.53 lakh shares changed hands in 10,138,703 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on NSE stood at Rs 1,43,65,290.02 crore.
