A new conveyor system to transport lignite from Mine-1A to the thermal power station by NLC India Ltd was formally launched Saturday by its chairman and managing director Rakesh Kumar.

The company said in a press release here that the conveyor system was set up with innovative ideas of engineers and employees of NLC India without involving any new purchase, thereby saving Rs 18 crore.

The Mine-1A, with a production capacity of 30 lakh tonne per year, was built to serve as an independent power producer to cement factories present in Tamil Nadu, the release said.

The conveyor measuring 832 metre was erected near Mine-1A which was linked with the existing conveyor system, it said.

The conveyor equipped with a 1,500-mm belt can carry 1,000 tonne of lignite per hour, the release said.

Since, the new system directly provides lignite to the thermal power station, the accumulation of old stock for a longer period can be avoided, it added.
