Opening Bell: Nifty above 11,850, Sensex gains 100 points

Markets opened on a flat start with Nifty around 11,850. The Sensex is up 1.36 points at 39436.08, and the Nifty down 4.20 points at 11839.90. About 580 shares have advanced, 345 shares declined, and 67 shares are unchanged. 

The 30-share index was trading 128.27 points, or 0.33 per cent, higher at 39,562.99. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty spurted 28.75 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 11,872.85.

Top Sensex gainers include NTPC, Tata Steel, Yes Bank, SBI, PowerGrid, L&T, M&M, ITC, HDFC Bank, Maruti, Axis Bank, Infosys, HDFC twins and ICICI Bank, rising up to 4.53 per cent.

While, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, RIL, Tata Motors, ONGC and Sun Pharma fell up to 1.63 per cent. In the previous session on Friday, the Sensex shot up 623.33 points, or 1.61 per cent, to end at 39,434.72, while the broader NSE Nifty surged 187.05 points, or 1.60 per cent, to 11,844.10.

The benchmark BSE Sensex had rallied over 623 points in closing trade on Friday, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP got an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. The 30-share index ended near day's high level at 39,434.72. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty spurted 187 points to close at 11,844.10. At close, 1823 shares have advanced, 676 shares declined while 150 remain unchanged.

The major gainers include ICICI Bank, Zee Entertainment, Vedanta, Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel while Tech Mahindra, NTPC, ONGC, TCS and HCL Tech are among some of the losers. However, all the sectoral indices ended in the green led by BSE PSU Bank (up 5.5%) followed by auto, metal and infra gained more than 2 percent.
