The world's biggest smartphone maker Samsung has finally launched its latest flagship, Galaxy S8 after much anticipation at a mega launch event in New York on Wednesday as it seeks to start a fresh chapter after the Note 7 fiasco, which badly tarnished the company’s image.

Last year, the Samsung Electronics was forced to discontinue the Galaxy Note 7, originally intended to compete with Apple's iPhone, after a chaotic recall that saw replacement devices also catching fire.

With much anticipation and a new tagline ‘Unbox Your Phone’, the Korean smartphone giant launched two new smartphones in market. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Both the smartphones will be available for sale from April 21. However, there is no official word on the price, it is expected that the Price of Galaxy S8 might start from $750.

During the ‘Galaxy Unpacked 2017’ event, Samsung's President of Mobile Communications business DJ Koh said that the latest addition to the Galaxy lineup represents "the start of a new era".

With two new smartphones, Samsung also introduced a slew of other new enhancements to the device including an all new voice assistant program called ‘Bixby’. Apart from these, the company also unveiled a few other accessories to pair up with the new Galaxy smartphone such as new Gear 360 Camera and a DeX device.

Let’s have a look the features and specifications of brand new Samsung Galaxy S8:  

# Display

With two different variants, Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch display. While the Galaxy S8 Plus will sport a mega 6.2-inch display. Both the phones come with "Infinity Display" - an edge to edge screen with no bezel except a small bezel at the top and bottom. The two smartphones have curved screen design, Gorilla Glass 5, 2960x1440 pixel resolution, and 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Also, The Galaxy S8 has an "invisible home button" beneath the display.

# Processor, RAM and Internal Storage

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-based Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be sold in the US market only. Both the phones have 6GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64 GB, which can be further expanded to 256 GB with the help of an external SD card.

 # Battery and Operating System

The new Galaxy smartphone run on Android Nougat-based TouchWiz out of the box. Coming to the battery, the Galaxy S8 is powered by a 3,000mAh battery while Galaxy S8 Plus has a larger 3,500mAh battery inside. Both the smartphone support wireless charging feature.

# Artificial Intelligence

Samsung has unveiled a new voice-powered digital assistant ‘Bixby’, which will have a set of pre-installed applications that will work with the interface.  

# Price and Colours

The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will be available globally starting from April 21 in as many as five colours: Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold.

# Special features

Both Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 plus will be both water and dust resistant. The Galaxy S8 has a fingerprint scanner, an iris scanner, and even facial recognition for easier passwords. Further, Every S8 will come with high-end AKG headphones.
